For the third consecutive year, more than 300 acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass guitar-wielding students from Phoenix-area elementary, middle and high schools performed before a panel of judges at the annual Fender Guitar Festival at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Ariz., on April 15 and 16.
Students enrolled in guitar programs at nine schools performed in ensembles that presented three compositions apiece from artists and styles as varied as Bach, bluegrass and the Beatles. After playing, each ensemble received positive instructional feedback on their performance from a panel that included Fender music education director Bob Morris.
It was a great two days of guitar music,” Morris said. “It’s nice to see young guitarists having the opportunity to showcase their talents for the public. One young lady told me ‘This is the best day ever,’ which really sums up the two-day event.”
Fender was on hand at the festival to provide product demonstrations, general guitar maintenance tips and live music.
