OMNIsound Studios Expands Facility With Help From Guitar Center Professional
(Guitar Center | Posted 2008-05-19)
, Tennessee's OMNIsound Studios has a rich history as a tracking facility, working with some of music's biggest stars since opening their doors some 20 years ago. Recently, they were given the opportunity to expand and develop a state-of-the-art mixing/mastering facility next door, and the expansion was smooth and successful with equipment and service from Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users.
OMNIsound chose GC Pro for their expertise and breadth of product, as well as their ability to build a long-term partnership. "We felt GC Pro's customer service would be best, and it really has panned out," stated Steve Tveit, OMNIsound Studios General Manager. "You can get Pro Tools and other gear in a lot of places now, but it's all about the knowledge base and customer service. Prior to purchase, we met with reps from GC Pro, had lunch with them and got to know everybody. Chad Evans has been our Account Manager, and we know that we can call him on his cell phone anytime if we have any questions. You don't get that kind of service just anywhere."
The setup for the new facility includes a 32-fader ICON integrated console system and D-Control from Digidesign with two 16-fader packs, Pro Tools HD®3 Accel system, Apogee analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, Dynaudio speaker system with two subs, SPL MixDream Analog Summing Unit and various other outboard gear.
OMNIsound Co-owner Billy Austin stated, "We had a basic idea of what we wanted gear-wise for our expanded facility, but GC Pro helped us connect all the dots and bring our vision to fruition. They proved in a very short time to be a valuable turnkey partner in this rather daunting effort to set up a studio facility of this size. They helped us coordinate everything we would need, and they do it so much that they really thought through all the details. They were really there for us on many occasions after the sale, and we look forward to a continued successful relationship with GC Pro."
Over the years, OMNIsound's tracking facility has hosted sessions for such artists as Faith Hill, Jewel and Marty Stuart, as well as sessions last year with the late Porter Wagoner for his final album project. Tveit, Austin and company are eager to continue working with that level of talent in the expanded facility. Said Tveit, "We haven't officially had a grand opening but the response to the room has been great. For instance, on the new equipment we've been working with Dan Tyminski, from Alison Krauss and Union Station, on his solo project, and that's a real fun project for us."
Chad Evans, GC Pro Accounts Manager, was the point man at GC Pro for OMNIsound as they made their vision a reality. He was impressed with their vision and gear choices: "Steve and Billy both see the future of recording and jump into it probably in the most logical solution, the Digi D-Control, and now they're one of the only rooms in Nashville that offers that. They're on the cutting edge, because they know that the D-control and the ICON are the way to go. We love to help make visions like this happen, and we want to see all of them succeed - that's how we build our customer base."
