STOW, OH, October 16, 2008 — Following closely on the heels of providing microphone solutions for the first two 2008 presidential debates and the vice presidential debate, Audio-Technica announces that its award-winning SpectraPulse® technology was used at the third presidential debate, held October 15 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. The Audio-Technica SpectraPulse mtu201 Wireless XLR Desk Stand Transmitter was used with A-T’s ES935ML Engineered Sound gooseneck microphone mounted within the conversation table in front of each candidate to pick up the audio from Senators McCain and Obama and transmit it securely, via patented ultra wideband (UWB) technology, with no interference. A SpectraPulse Digital Receiver Module (drm141) was mounted directly above the conversation table in the lighting truss and connected to the equipment rack via a standard shielded Cat-5 cable. A completely new application of UWB technology, SpectraPulse bypasses the increasingly congested RF environment to deliver clear, intelligible audio without the performance and set-up issues associated with conventional wireless systems.
Larry Estrin, of Studio City, CA-based Best Audio, serves as Audio and Production Communications Director for the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). He stated, “The SpectraPulse product performed perfectly and proved that it has significant advantages to offer, not only in the secure boardroom scenario but also in the realm of high visibility world class events like this presidential debate.”
Estrin also utilized several different Audio-Technica microphones for use at the first two presidential debates (held September 26 in Oxford, MS, and on October 7 in Nashville, TN), and the vice presidential debate (held October 2 in St. Louis, MO). In fact, Audio-Technica has been outfitting the debates since 1988, when the CPD assumed sponsorship and production responsibilities. With the company marking its 20th anniversary as the premier mic supplier for the presidential debates, a host of microphones from Audio-Technica’s comprehensive product line has been featured to cover the diverse needs of each application.
Aside from the prominent use of A-T’s SpectraPulse at the October 15 presidential debate, specific Audio-Technica products used for this year’s debate series have included A-T’s Artist Elite® 5000 Series Wireless Systems, AT898 and AT899 Subminiature Lavaliers and AE6100 Hypercardioid Handheld Dynamic Microphones connected to Audio-Technica’s AT-MX351 SmartMixer® Five-channel Automatic Mixers, utilized to pick up crisp, intelligible audio from the candidates, the moderators and the voting public alike.
Greg Pinto, Audio-Technica VP of Marketing, remarked, “We are very proud that our innovative SpectraPulse wireless microphone system was chosen for an event of this historic magnitude. In high-profile broadcast events like this, when there is no second chance to get the audio right, it is a special honor to have our products selected as the go-to microphone solution for outstanding sound and reliable performance.”
