Hayden to build amps at NAMM 2010(Press release | Posted 2009-12-13) You can be forgiven if you've never heard of Hayden amps-a new British company. But something tells me that after NAMM 2010, Hayden amps will have a tough time being a best-kept secret among amp afficianados. Where most amps at NAMM will be demonstrating tones and features, Hayden amps will be built from scratch at its NAMM booth, giving NAMM visitors the chance to witness first hand the care and quality that goes into building these amps. Hayden originated from the guitar amplication division of esteemed bass amplifier company Ashdown. Here's the release: NAMM 2010, Hall C, Booth 4778. British guitar amp manufacturer Hayden will be hand-building Classic Lead 80 and MoFo guitar amp heads at NAMM 2010. Visitors to the Hayden Booth 4778 can see Hayden’s Chief Designer Dave Green building completed amps from scratch, in just the same way as they are at the Hayden factory in Essex, England. “This is a great opportunity for visitors to NAMM to get under the skin Hayden amps - literally – and to talk with one of the most knowledgable and experienced designers in the business,” comments Hayden Managing Director Mark Gooday. Drawing on the classic valve amp designs of the past, Hayden adds just the features a modern guitarist needs like valve switching, pick-up matching and the greater reliability that comes through refined circuit design. Rated at 80-Watts, the Classic Lead strikes the perfect balance between the characteristics of a 100-Watt design – particularly the low frequency response – and the advantages of a 50-Watt amp, most notably the ability to drive it harder at gigging volume levels. Channels 1 and 2 vary only in their gain structures, 1 being medium to high gain covering subtle warmth to a huger, 3D crunch, and 2 taking things further into full, saturated, sustain without a hint of fizz. Presence, bass, middle and treble controls are provided for tone shaping but the Classic Lead won’t make you work hard to get a great sound. It’s all there, straight out the box. Meanwhile, the 30-Watt all-tube MoFo combines sensational looks with versatile tone and comprehensive features. With four cascaded gain stages and a footswitchable MoFo mode for even more gain, the MoFo does it all from classic clean tones through plexi-esque classic rock crunch to full metal mayhem. And the versatility doesn’t stop with the sounds. There’s 30 Watts of power, courtesy of 4 x EL84 valves. And with both 8 and 16 Ohm speaker outputs, the MoFo can drive a wide range of cabinets from a boutique 1x12 in the studio right up to a 4x12 on the concert stage. Separate UK and US-voiced instrument inputs shape the signal for classic British or thinner, higher-gain US tones respectively, and a simple series FX loop allows you connect your favourite stomp boxes. And when you’re rehearsing, you’ll love the Stealth switch underneath the amp which lets your MoFo scream, without the neighbours screaming at you.
