NEW SABIAN VAULT 3-POINT RIDE FOR JACK DEJOHNETTE(Press Release | Posted 2009-12-21) MEDUCTIC, Canada– Based on an idea from jazz giant Jack DeJohnette, the new SABIAN 21" Vault 3-Point Ride offers dark, smokey tone with varying sound nuances across three distinct playing surfaces. An unlathed ‘control’ ring around the center of this hand hammered cymbal produces tight, glassy sounds while the lathed area between the ring and the bell deliver more ‘point’, with the area from the ring out to the edge producing a fuller, more open response. Topped by a mini bell, this medium-thin model is highly playable and versatile, with definite stick response and clarity coupled with a variety of dark and dirty sounds enhanced by jumbo-peen hammering on its underside. Commented DeJohnette, whose collaborations with SABIAN include the original Jack DeJohnette Signature and Vault Encore models: “My jazz roots continue to dictate the basis of my sounds, but my musical directions are constantly changing, so it’s a matter of holding on to those past sounds that mean the most to me, while riding a cymbal that means most to the music I’m playing today. It’s a challenge, but SABIAN can take what I’m asking for and design cymbals that combine vintage and modern… and come up with the Vault 3-Point Ride.”
