Cort to release affordable Gene Simmons Axe Bass

Love 'em or hate 'em, it seems no one doesn't have an opinion about KISS and their blood-spewing lizard-tongued bassist, Gene Simmons. Simmons seems to have been born with marketing savvy, first with his band, then with a line of KISS merchandise that extends from KISS Mr. Potato Head dolls to a KISS coffin (I'm not kidding -- Pantera guitarist Dimebag Daryl was buried in one after being killed in a club a few years back).
So it seemed natural natural when, in 2009, Simmons offered through his website a limited edition, custom designed Axe bass (it looks like an axe, honest) that could be ordered through his website for $5,000. But now Simmons has taken the next step by authorizing Cort to release the replica GS-AXE-2, which will hit stores in February.
The GS-Axe-2 will have an MSRP of $699 and a street price of around $500, Simmons told journalists at the Winter NAMM 2010 show. The bass will include a padded bag with Simmons’ face on it. It will have a 34 inch scale, a hard maple neck, rosewood fretboard, die cast Gotoh tuners and Might Mite pickups in a P/J configuration.
The picture above is of Simmons with his original Axe bass, which the Cort is designed after.
