(mtebaldi | Posted 2010-12-05)
From four thousand drummers and eight hundred and fifty competitions nationwide, whittled down to a select five at one huge final event. Guitar Center has revived, once again, the spirit of searching for the next great and undiscovered drummers across the country for a Drum-Off competition that will end with awarding a grand prize package valuing over $40,000 for one very lucky, mind-blowing drummer. Besides pocketing 25K, the winner will receive a custom drum kit with a complete set of cymbals, endorsement deals for drums, cymbals, drumheads and sticks, a Roland TD-20SX and PM30, $500 Converse gift card, Monster Energy drink endorsement deal, a 2011 NAMM VIP ticket, and will be featured in Modern Drummer magazine!
The final event of this five-month long competition will be held at The Music Box, Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood California, on Saturday, January 8th at 6:30 PM. In addition to the top five finalists’ Drum-Off competition, the event will have performances from a few of the greatest drummers of our time, everything to be kicked off with a special collaborative performance from two of Guitar Center’s Drum-Off alumni; Cora Coleman-Dunham (known for drumming for Price) and Tony Royster Jr., Jay-Z’s rhythm man. They will perform along side hip-hop/R&B drum icons Nisan Stewart (50 Cent, Jamie Foxx) and Trevor Lawrence Jr. (Eminen, Dr. Dre, Herbie Hancock). Hosted by Jane’s Addiction’s Stephen Perkins, Guitar Center’s Drum Off Final event will have Steve Smith’s eclectic jazz infused project as headline. Dave Lombardo will also take the stage with Philm as his backing band and a rare collaboration between Gavin Harrison (of British prog-rockers Porcupine Tree) and Simon Phillips (who has played both with and alongside artists including Mick Jagger, Brian Eno and Jeff Beck) will perform a percussive ensemble set for a evening of drumming ecstasy and exhilaration.
Tickets are on sale at ticketweb.com for a slender price of only $10. The Music Box, Henry Fonda Theater is located on 6126 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood.
