How would you like to sit down in front of your computer and participate in a master class conducted by a guitarist who is acclaimed as a living legend? One who has performed and recorded with some of the largest acts in the world, including Whitesnake, David Lee Roth, Frank Zappa, and Alcatrazz. Thanks to the Berklee Collegr of Music, you now have the chance to do just that.
Beginning April 4, 2011, monster guitarist Steve Vai will be conducting a 12-week online course in association with the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Vai will discuss his experience in the music business, technique and his unique approach to the guitar.
This course is designed to give any student a deep understanding and command of the playing styles, repertoire, techniques and musical concepts of Berklee alum Vai. This online course, the first ever of its kind, presents an "under the hood" look at the work of one of the world's most influential guitarists. Through playing exercises, listening examples, hours of never-before-seen video, song transcriptions, performance assignments - and even a live chat with Vai himself – students will not only learn the secrets behind Vai's best known compositions and virtuosic techniques, but will also learn how to improve their own solos, chord and rhythm playing, and overall voice on the guitar.
On March 3, Vai teamed up with Berklee and Livestream to host a 30-minute online lesson to bring together the worldwide community of guitarists in an unprecedented online celebration of music education. Berklee will donate $1 for every person that joins the online lesson to the Steve Vai Online Scholarship Fund, which is designed to reward and assist outstanding students studying in Berklee's multi-course certificate programs.
Some of Steve’s accomplishments in the music business include winning 3 Grammys; 9 Grammy nominations; 7-time best guitarist award in “Guitar Player” magazine; and 4 honors with “Guitar world” magazine.
