Carvin Cobalt Series C - 550 Reviews 5 / 5 based on 1 reviewsI played several makes of guitars at a local music store. I was about to purchase a Martin D-15, when I started to have 2nd thoughts.
So, I thought I'd take a chance on the new line of acoustics that Carvin was selling.
I decided on the Carvin C-550. I paid $577.95 with extra nice hard shell case.
The full rich sound with excellent mids and high notes! A strikingly beautiful guitar with bookmatched top, sides and back. Binding everywhere on the guitar. The Grover tuners keep it in perfect tune.
The abalone sound hole purfling is very eye catching.
I would classify the sound of this guitar in the lower end Taylor neighborhood. Beauty is just as good.
Nothing...I cannot find one thing that I do not like about this guitar.
I chose the C-550 for it's rosewood sides and back, with a spruce top. All wood is AA grade and bookmatched. The neck is mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard.
It has the same X bracing and dovetail neck joint that Martin uses in their construction.
Quality is just outstanding! Great neck and super action!
This is, hands down, the finest acoustic guitar for the money you can buy.
I am happy I took the Carvin challenge. I got WAY more guitar for the buck, over the Martin D-15.
The C-550 is just one fine guitar. I will go to my grave with this guitar. Mr. Daniel L. Taylor Sr. rated this unit on 2002-07-03.
