Collings OM1-A Acoustic Guitar Reviews 5 / 5 based on 1 reviewsI bought this 1998 Collings OM1-A acoustic guitar used from Dusty Strings Music in Seattle, Washington. I paid $2200.
I have been playing guitar for 35 years and I have always dreamed of owning a really nice handmade guitar. I first played a Collings in California 3 years ago and fell in love with it. When I saw this one for sale, I couldn't pass it up. This piece has an Adirondack spruce top (thus the "A" in OM1-A,) which gives it a crisp, but not overly bright, high end. To describe the tone of this guitar as "well balanced" would be a severe understatement. The bass is full and rich, but not overstated. The mids are clean and even. Everything about the tone of this guitar is, as far as I'm concerned, perfect. It plays wonderfully.
Absolutely nothing.
The construction is absolutely first rate in every aspect. Collings pays great attention to detail with every instrument they make, and it shows. The binding is just exquisite, and the woods selected to build this guitar are clearly first rate. Bill Collings is a master at creating an instrument that replicates the feel and sound of a pre-war Martin.
If you are a serious acoustic player and are looking for a perfectly crafted guitar that is a world class instrument, you should strongly consider a Collings. CM Schubert rated this unit on 2002-02-01.
