Martinez MSC7 Reviews 3

I bought the guitar from ebay, it was sold in brand new condition and I paid $500.This guitar retails for 750 and represents the top of the martinez line up.

I like the solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides. The guitar seems to be made from good quality acoustic timbers. It is a very lightweight and playable guitar. The electronics are top quality, the neck when set up looks to be terrific.

The finish is appalling, really, there is no other way to describe it, if I had seen the guitar in the flesh I wouldnt have bought it. The fingerboard and bridge are unfinished, the tuning heads cheap and nasty, the mother of pearl fake, and worst of all the brand name was mis-stamped on to the headstock in blurred chalky white paint. The saddle does not fit the bridge and is just a cheap chunk of plastic.

Timbers seem of good quality, although I think that the back is laminated, overall I wonder why a company would go to the trouble of inlays all over the place and then just paint black dots on the neck as side position markers. Tuning heads grind and gnash.

A lot of solid top for a little money, my idea is to get a top quality saddle and nut made, replace the tuning heads and refinish the finish, if all goes to plan, this should result in a pretty damn good solid top for the price, however if I had paid retail price I would have sent it back.
