Daddario ECB 81 Chromes Reviews 5 / 5 based on 1 reviewsThis is a review for the ECB81 model bass strings made by D'addario. This strings are flat wound, which are different from the common round wound bass strings that you will see on most stock basses.
Flats give you more of a deeper, warmer, mellower tone than a bright round wound string.
Flat wound strings come in all gauges, materials and price ranges. I am a regular D'addario user so I thought I'd give there's a shot. I bought them online from American Musical Supply. I went with the 45-100 gauge ECB81s.
I installed these and tuned them up to pitch without a hitch. The initial tone of these strings is brighter than most flat wounds I have tried, but then do break in after time. I'm going to estimate it took my strings about to months to break in.
I have been loving them ever since. I'm going to guess I've had these on for about 6 months.
Nothing, I took a shot in the dark and picked out a winner. Great choice for flats.
The tension is nice. It is a bit firmer than rounds, but you and your fingers will get used to them in no time.
I'm always impressed with what comes out of the D'addario factory. I always get a consistent product, never a bad pack!
If you find yourself venturing into the world of flat wound strings, give these a shot. The initial brightness will where off and you will be thumping in no time. I'm so glad I put these on my P-bass. Billy rated this unit on 2011-02-23.
