Hands-on review: ZVEX Effects Fuzz Probe

These came in my bass, but I was already playing the same bass with stock PUs, and I am very impressed with the difference. The basses are otherwise identical.

In the Ibanez AxStar bass, the OEM PUs produce a great mellow classic humbucker tone, but get lost in heavy blues or in loud rock&roll with too many guitars. The EMG replacements still deliver rather classic tone, but with more upper mids if you choose to dial them in. The EMGs are also just plain louder [more gain].

I have no complaints at all.

The EMGs are mounted onto the original Ibanez elevator rings and adjustment is just as easy as with the OEM PUs. What else can you say about construction or quality about pickups? They are black plastic with covered pole pieces.

I don't go for harsh edgy bass tone but the brighter tone of these EMGs is well within my taste, a noticeable upgrade even though I never thought of the OEM Ibanez PUs as muddy or dull.
