Elixer Nanoweb 45-105 4 string Reviews 3 / 5 based on 1 reviewsThis is a review for Nanoweb 4-string bass strings by Elixir. Elixir is an American company out of Elkton, Maryland. They came onto to the scene with their famous coated guitar and bass strings. The strings are marketed as lasting 3-5 times longer than your current strings.
Everyone rants and raves and loves or hates these strings. I thought, hey you only live once. I had a coupon and got the normally $40 strings onsale for $25. I brought them home and put them on a Fender P-bass that I had been playing for years.
The strings are very bright so it gives you that 'Hey these are new strings' sound right away. The feel is somewhat unique to Elixirs but not too different than a regular set of Nickel Roundwound bass strings.
Like any strings they stretch and wear. I have a decent amount of mileage on them, but I see them lasting twice as long as my regular strings at best.
There is something missing sonicly in these strings. I'm not sure what, I think it is in the lower midrange to bass frequency. That is why we have preamps and EQs though right?
Nothing major, just there is a difference in tone, not as pure.
I put them on, tuned them up to pitch, stretched them and all is well. The thin coated feel is acquired within a few minutes of playing.
These are not snake oil, nor are they God's gift of strings, but a decent set. I did get more mileage out of them then a normal set, so I guess they are worth the price of admission up front. Billy rated this unit on 2011-03-17.
