LaBella Beatle Bass Flats Reviews 5 / 5 based on 1 reviewsThese are short-scale (30') flatwound stainless strings designed to fit the Hofner Beatle bass. I've played bass professionally for 45 years in a variety of styles.
Purchased from Juststrings.com; $42 for the .50 through .100 set.

These produced the famous McCartney Beatle bass sound heard on the Beatles' albums before Rubber Soul, when he switched to a Rickenbacker bass. Although McCartney used Pyramid flats, I tried Pyramids and didn't care for them. The LaBellas worked great right out of the package, played either with a pick or fingers. Tension is good for a short scale set -- E is not at all floppy. They also tune up well with the Hofner bridge, which does not have individually adjustable saddles. They record beautifully.
No complaints. LaBella says they are made specifically for the three types of bridges Hofner makes, and it appears to have worked.
Well made as far as I can tell, a fairly priced.
Unless you want to go for the Abbey Road Bass look and sound by using Rotosund nylon tapewound strings on your Hofner, these Labella Beatle Bass strings will give you the early McCartney sound with a minimum of tinkering. Run your bass using only the front pickup, ala Paul, and play with a pick and it's 'Meet the Beatles' time! Laklander rated this unit on 2010-07-29.
