Thomastik-Infeld Accousticore Nylon Bass Strings Reviews
4 / 5 based on 1 reviewsReplacement sets are [BEADG] are $65 but
these came on my bass.
The voice is unique among bass guitar sets,
really very "stringy" sounding. Ms. Diva
says, "I love it. It sounds like a real
stringed instrument." These strings send a
hugely varied palette of sounds to the PU
so that messing with your amp will reveal
many different voices, not just changes of
EQ all onto one voice as is usual with most
types of strings. Last night I had the
whole set detuned 2 frets. Tension felt
normal [for these strings] and it sounded
like the bottom range of a piano with its
soft pedal engaged.
Another benefit is a very soft touch, which
sometimes is a problem, but overall is less
tiring to play.
The strings are very elastic and so altered
tunings do not result in overly taut or in
floppy strings. Also, this same quality means that tuning pegs have a very gradual
effect, even on the B and E strings. Your
normal [12:1] tuners will feel like fine
tuners [18:1 or 24:1]. IOW the low strings
don't suddenly jump through correct pitch
when tuning up, and the high strings seem
to take forever to respond to turns on the
tuning knobs.
The soft touch make it unsettling to play
fast lines such as you might use for Chuck
Berry. The strings don't resist your
fingers so the right hand can't leap from
string to string by "pushing off" from each
string to the next. It's more like playing
in mid-air instead of on a grid of made of
fairly stiff wire.
Another complaint is that there is no flat
wound version available. You want this sound on your fretless ? You pay the cost
in wear to the finger board [although not
as bad as regular round wounds because the
touch is so soft].
Nylon filament cores with bronge round wire
outer windings, and silk covered ends.
THESE STRINGS WILL NOT PLAY TO MAGNETIC PUs.
They are only useful with piezo-only basses
because ther is no metal core and the outer
windings are non-magnetic [bronze].
AFAIK, they come in on gage and length with
either 4 or 5 to the set. These fit my 35"
string-through-body bass. They are so very
elastic that the silk actually falls on the
nut before you crank the tuners to playing
pitch, but 1/2 way to pitch the string has
stretched a lot and the silk is well beyond
the nut [it stared out about 4mm short of
clearing the nut.
Try them out if you have a piezo electic
ABG. If you really like them, maybe epoxy
your fingerboard, or just accept the need
to have it restored now and then. Most
piezo acoustic basses are 4 string, which
is MUCH cheaper, about 1/3 less $$$ for 4.
Thomastik is charging big bucks for that
B-string.
Even though they are amazing strings, I'm
going to swap out to RS88 Rotosound black
nylon flats and see which I prefer to keep
on this bass. I have the RS88s on a number
of fretted and fretless axen, and they also
sound rather "stringy". Ms. Diva's other
favorite basses mostly have RS88s on them.
