I would first like to make it clear that I have owned many high-end basses and guitars, so I have something to judge this bass by.
For the money, I truly believe this is the absolute most you will get for your money, either here in the U.S. or abroad. It has the neck-thru design, which is very solid and affords great intonation. Playablity is nothing short of superb. I played the bass right out of the box, and it required little or no set-up. The only complaint that I have lies within the finish. There was a small flaw (dust spot, I think) in the laquer. I purchased the transparent black one, and except for the one small dust spot in the finish, it was superb. The hardware appears to be multi-chrome plated. (I have seen the super cheap axes like danelectro that obviously only have one coat of chrome (base metal shows through) On a scale of one to ten, I would give the Epiphone Les Paul Custom 5 string bass a solid 8. Sure, it's not a Warwick, or Alembic, but the price tag is not anywhere in that ball park either. A truly great gigging Bass for the musician that has a cash flow problem. Very Highly recommended!
The only real detractor that I could see lies within the finish as mentioned above.

Highly recommended for any musician who cannot afford the hefty price tag of a custom built bass, but still want some semblance of quality for their money.
