Ibanez SG800GN / SG640 Reviews

First let me start by saying that the 800 series is not as easy to play as the 640 series. Though the titanium ice colors are a eyesore, the 640 plays better.Both basses have quick necks, but I prefer the 640.Basically the same bass. I really like the sweepable mids, live it is a fingertip adjustment on the fly. very easy to use.Active electronics and stability at the bridge a plus too.
OK<THIS IS A PROBLEM ON 96% OF SG800's!!!!! THE SCREWHOLES STRIP!!!!!! EVERYONE I KNOW WHO HAS A SG800 HAS THIS PROBLEM! THE INPUT JACK WEARS OUT!!!!!CAN'T KEEP YOUR CORD IN THE GUITAR! 80% HAVE THIS PROBLEM!!!! THE ENGINEER THAT DESIGNED A NO ENTRY INPUT JACK FOR IBANEZ SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!!!!!!!
I HAVE PLAYED BASS GUITAR FOR 20 YEARS PROFESSIONALLY AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BASS (INCLUDING THE CHEAP MODELS!)EVER HAVE THIS SEVERE OF A DEFECT!!!!IF YOU HAVE A TUB OF WOOD PUTTY AND THE PART# FOR THE INPUT JACK, YOUR IN GREAT SHAPE!GUESS THAT'S WHY THEY CAME OUT WITH THE 810 SERIES HUH?
With the exception of the defects stated above, these are nice basses, if you can live with those two problems you'll love them. the electronics are good (P&J actives)
the necks are fairly stable. accubridge is good.goto tuners,fretting is ok,I am a fan of Ibanez basses, and I wasn't dissapointed with the 640,the 800 was ok also.
BOTTOM LINE: If you are a beginning bassist, or intermediate,buy one! It will probably be a nice upgrade for you, If you are an advanced player, blow it off and get a Parker,Factor,or an Ibanez custom.I own several Ibanez and the only disappointment in my collection is the SG800.
