Washburn 5 String Acoustic Bass Reviews 5 / 5 based on 1 reviewsi bought this bass from z sounds on the website i paid approx 820.including the case I WANTED AN ACOUSTIC BASS GUITAR FOR USE WITHOUT AND WITH AN AMPLIFIER.
this is a big bass guitar, its size impressed me from the start.it has an upright bass sound with flatwounds on it.it comes with dean markley steel strings.i have tried several sets of all types of strings and settled on bronze roundwounds.they are the loudest without amplification.this combination gives you solid attack along with that boomy sound. you can actually play this without an amplifier in a small setting.using a pick will help though.
this is being real picky, but of course nothing is perfect.intonation on the b and e string could be a little better.the bridge is not adjustable on this type of guitar.i have adjusted by tuning these strings a little flat to have them in tune at the highEr frets.i tried straightening the neck some and it seemed to help.this is a beautiful guitar that is very close to being perfect.very minor stain flaws on one side of the neck is the only other negative.
As i already stated this is a large 35inch scale guitar with a big body.construction seems to be very sturdy.tuners work welland this stays in tune.the fretboard is the best feature.very attractive rosewood with no dots on it .it does have a very attractive W INLAY ON THE UPPER FRETBOARD.THIS WAS A SURPRISE TO ME AS THE PICTURES SHOWED DOTS AND NO INLAY.IT TOOK A FEW WEEKS TO GET USED TO NO DOTS BUT NOW I DONT MISS THEM AT ALL.FRETBOARD IS WIDER THAN MY ELECTRIC 5 STRING CARVIN ALLOWING EVEN STRING SPACING I HAVE LONG FINGERS SO THIS FEATURE FITS ME WELL. THE EQUIS PREAMP IS IMPRESSIVE.I CAN PUT AMP CONTROLS EVEN AND CONTROL TONES FROM THE GUITAR.THE NOTCH FILTER WORKS WELL ALSO.THE FEEDBACK THAT THIS GUITAR PRODUCES CAN BE CONTROLLED BY MOVING AWAY FROM THE AMPLIFIER,I TRY TO GET AT LEAST 6 FT AWAY.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A 5 STRING ACOUSTIC BASS LOOK NO FUTHER UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY 1500-2500 FOR A CUSTOM .THERE IS REALLY NO COMPETITION IN THIS MARKET .BOTTOMLINE GET THE WASHBURN.
