Washburn XB-120Q Reviews 4 / 5 based on 2 reviewsI purchased this guitar last april 2002 Php 12,500 (Philippine Peso, approx. 200 USD). I bought it at Perfect Pitch Music Store.
First of all, I looked for a bass on a budget with a bit of pro quality. I found this bass awesome at it's price along with the it's features. What I liked in this bass is the active pickups that gives me alot of presence when playing. Although the controls are simple (1-vol, 1-tone and 3-way pickup switch), I like the the sustain , the way it sound when plugged to the amp and the accessible battery compartment (as opposed to those basses with batteries placed in the control cavity, it takes time to replace). It is lightweight. I also like the quilted finish, more appreciating that sunburst colors.
I find it difficult to stick the bass in one position, it is not balanced. Although I used high quality guitar cables, the jack is sometimes noisy, even a slight damp on the jack makes the amp gives that buzzy noise.
Nice bass, very nice quilted finish, active soapbar pickups (very hot) with a good sustain.
This is a good bass for bassists on budget. On my opinion, it stands out on all other basses on budget. I would prefer it more than fender's standard p-bass or j-bass because of its active pickups that gives me a lot of bass when I play. Much more, you get more that what you pay. The XB120, Fender's P-bass and J-bass have a lot of common features particularly on no. of frets and controls. But two things stand out, it's the active pickups, more punch and growl and the quilted finish. Sigfred rated this unit on 2003-01-10.
