Yamaha RBX-170 Reviews 5 / 5 based on 4 reviewsI joined a band, and they needed a bassist, so i decided to play bass instead of guitar. saved up half a year's worth of lunch money to buy this bass, 129 dollars at guitar centre.
The weight was considerably lighter than some fender/squiers that i have tried, the strings that came with the instrument were good strings, and the electronics were much better than those on squiers. this is THE ideal beginner bass!
there is a buzz on the E string, but i think i can easily fix that...also the finish scratched easily, but that was probably my fault, and can be easily remedied by placing a sticker over the scratch...also the strap keeps falling off but i think its the straps fault
my bass was built in indonesia, according to the label, and it is a really nice axe for one that isnt US made. the neck was very smooth, and easy to play on.
when i first saw this bass i thought it was almost too good to be true. beginner bass players: dont restrict your self to the squiers and fenders, and god forbid, ibanezs, get this one you wont regret. Shade rated this unit on 2004-08-23. I picked up this bass at a Guitar Center for about $189. I was looking for a starter bass, and I was sold on the value and the P/J pickup combo.
The Price...No, I actually feel that the bass is a decent beginer unit. Tonal quality is decent for a cheapy bass. The lightweight agathis body is nice for jamming.
The body style is horrendous! Wow, it is ugly. I also have had issues with the input wiring. In fact, I had to replace it after 6 months! Also, the neck is not super solid, and you can get some bending noise in your notes when you are playing hard.
Construction is OK. Again, the wiring was not great, and the neck is also cheap.
Not bad for a beginer, with its low price and light body. If you are serious about playing or in a band, step up to a Fender or a decent brand name bass. Coolio rated this unit on 2004-03-01. I went down to a local guitar shop located in downtown Bangor, Maine called Knapp's Music. I was looking for my first bass guitar and the salesman had nothing but good things to say about this guitar. I paid $250 for this guitar and it is well worth it.
The action on this bass is really good. The sound quality is exelent. This bass not only has good sound but it has good looks. I have the matalic red and it looks awesome.
I do not have anything bad to say about this bass. I like everything about it.
Ross Allen rated this unit on 2003-11-17. I really wanted to play bass for a long time. I found a shop only for Yamaha instruments, so I decided to take a look. I found this bass and I liked its shape so I tried it out. I enjoyed it so much that I bought it after 4 days for 1550 Egyptian Pounds (that's about £160).
Everything, its design, its sound, and it's very comfortable too. The strings also stay in tune (unlike some guitars).
Not much to say actually, this bass rocks.
24 Frets, rosewood fingerboard, paintjob done perfectly, and everything was perfectly adjusted from the beginnig, I only needed t tune it and it was ready for playing
Buy it if you can, it's really worth it, and you'll save a lot of money too. Suitable for all kinds of bassists. Tail Of The Scorpion rated this unit on 2003-04-20.
