Danelectro 1960's Silvertone Bottleneck Reviews 4 / 5 based on 1 reviewsI bought this guitar at a used guitar store for $300. I bought it for recording. I wanted a new Danelectro but for a little more, I got the real deal. (I love vintage guitars and equipment.) I wanted that jangly rock sound.
The Silvertone delivers the exact sound I want. Through a clean amp, it has a great high and mid sound-like the jangle of a Rickenbacker at an affordable price. I've used it to record some punk songs with a slightly overdriven amp and I have also recorded a friend's country folk project where he used it for a nice twangy solo. It's a versatile little monster.
The guitar is a bit small so if you're used to playing a regular sized guitar, it can feel a little awkward to play until you get used to it. It's not a guitar I would feel comfortable with live. I think the new Danelectros are probably a bit larger.
It's forty years-old and the action is still great and it looks great. End of story.
For $300 I couldn't ask for more. It's versatile and can be used for music ranging from punk to pop to country. Jason rated this unit on 2001-11-01.
