Epiphone Explorer 1958 Reissue Reviews
5 / 5 based on 1 reviewsImpulse purchase online for $200. I did some research & saw the retail was almost $800 and they were going for around $400-$500 new. This one is a brand-new factory 2nd, but even after close inspection, I can't tell why!
This guitar is a bargain! Great craftsmanship that I would put up against my Les Paul any day. The neck is smooth, and after a little adjustment, the action is low with no buzz. Great finish & overall eye appeal.
Two things: First, the balance is not that great...if you stop playing and let go of the neck, the guitar dips towards the headstock. Second, the sound is incredible cranked up for rock & roll, and the pick-ups are incredibly loud. However, if you are going fo a clean tone, look elsewhere. It is very muddy, and makes switching back and forth difficult. I'm torn on replacing them though, because they just sound so good cranked up!
A+ quality and construction. I would not have been surprised to pay $1000 for this axe!
I have always liked the look of the Explorers, but already having a late '70s Les Paul and a mid-80's Strat, I didn't feel like plunking down $1500-$2000 on a guitar just for looks. But for the price, I figured what the heck. I am so glad I did! I haven't put it down in two weeks, and my other 'babies' are collecting dust!
