Hamer Studio GATSSO Reviews 5 / 5 based on 1 reviewsI've been playing guitar for about 35 years. Mostly Blues, electric and accoustic and then you can throw in a little Jazz, Country & Rock lots of slide playing.
Pretty much playing two or three gigs a week everything from clubs to Blues Festivals. My latest band
Blue River Ordonnance has been together
for about ten years now.
I got this Hamer at a little music store in Kansas City that has since gone out of business. I paid about $800.00 it was the only Hamer they had. The Hamer rep. was trying to get them to try them out.
The first thing that caught my eye was how much flame there was in the maple top finished in a very nice and thin transparent cherry sunburst. American made Hamers have very good finishes every bit as nice as some PRS guitars. Over all this is a double cutaway Les Paul, no binding on the body or rosewood neck but I like the fact that they still used a high quality wood. Seymour Duncan 59 pickups
and quality tuners. The neck is what I would call perfect, round and chunky but not too fat that is the first thing that jumped out at me when I picked it up. I have owned three different Les Pauls a Deluxe and Custom and 25/50 model. To me this guitar is better than all of them nice weight not to heavy very woody soundy.
I can't really think of anything other that the fact that there are not very many dealers in the midwest.
As good as the PRS guitars I've seen and I'm not knocking them they are very good guitars just nameing that as a standard. The woods, finishes and hardware are all first rate The Hamer is a little bit thicker in the body than a PRS. More like a Les Paul standard.
A very upscale guitar made in America with beautiful woods and finishes. I think they are overlooked and would like to see more of them out there. After playing this guitar I saw a Artist Korina ARTK about a year later, semi hollow very light. It has P-90s and so I bought it. The neck is just like the Studio you could close your eyes and they feel like the same guitar.I really think many American made guitars are very over priced. It's hard to pay three grand for something then take it out and play in bars. I'm not a rock star or a doctor or lawyer but I want a professional
guitar without getting a bank loan to buy one. To me a Hamer offers very good bang for the buck. Tom Duckworth rated this unit on 2005-09-24.
