Jay Turser Semi Hollow Body Reviews
4 / 5 based on 1 reviewsI FOUND THIS GUITAR AT A LARGE GUITAR SHOW IN COLUMBUS, OHIO. I WAS LOOKING FOR A 335 STYLE GUITAR. I PAID $140 PLUS A DRUM MACHINE THAT I WASNT USING ANYMORE FOR TRADE. I FIGURED I WOULD GET ALOT MORE USE OUT OF THE GUITAR,...AND I WAS RIGHT.
I LIKE THE TOBACCO SUNBURST FINISH. THE SOUND IS ON THE WARMER/SOFTER SIDE OF THE SPECTRUM, AND WITH EFFECTS THIS GUITAR SOUNDS GREAT. ACTUALLY, THIS IS THE GUITAR I GRAB MOST OFTEN FOR SOME REASON, NOT MY BEST BY ANY MEANS, BUT SEEMS LIKE THE MOST ALL AROUND VERSITILE GUITAR, BLUES, SMOOTH JAZZ,FUNKY STUFF AND 1960'S SONGS.
THE NECK IS VERY EASY TO PLAY, GOOD ACTION AND THIN. IT HAS WHAT APPEARS TO BE HUMBUCKER PICK UPS.
TWO THINGS IM NOT REAL HAPPY WITH. ONE ISNT REALLY BAD ACTUALLY, IN FACT IT COULD BE GOOD, THAT BEING THE NECK GETS VERY NARROW NEAR THE HEADSTOCK. {IM TALIKING ABOUT THE FINGERBOARD WIDTH, THE ROSEWOOD PART.}
I HAVE SMALL HANDS SO ITS NOT TOO BAD, BUT ITS DEFINETLY NARROWER THAN MY OTHER 12 GUITARS.
THE FINISH IS REALLY NICE AS FAR AS THE CLEAR COAT, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. THE STAIN ON THE FRONT HOWEVER HAS A GOOD SIZE DEFECT IN MY OPINION THAT IS NOT THE GRAIN OF THE WOOD, IN MY OPINION. IT ALMOST LOOKS MANMADE,LIKE SOMETHING WAS SET ON IT BEFORE IT DRIED. FIGURES ITS ON THE FRONT AND NOT THE BACK! ALSO, THEIR IS NO BINDING IN THE F-HOLES, A NEGATIVE IN MY OPINION.
I ALSO DONT LIKE THE SHAPE OF THE PICK GUARD.
THIS GUITAR, CONSTRUCTION WISE SEEMS VERY WELL BUILT, "SOLID AND STURDY". IT ALSO SEEMS FAIRLY HEAVY FOR A SEMI HOLLOW BODY. IT HAS BINDING ON THE FRONT AND BACK AND ON THE NECK. THE NECK IS A SET NET.
THE BOTTOM LINE...HMMM....WELL, I WISH THAT IT HAD GOLD HARDWARE, BECAUSE THAT WOULD LOOK ALOT BETTER WITH TOBACCO SUNBURST, BUT THATS JUST ANOTHER OPINION. OVERALL, THIS GUITAR IS A GREAT PLAYER. AND IT SOUNDS REALLY GOOD WHEN YOU EITHER HAVE EFFECTS TURNED ON OR FIND A GOOD AMP SETTING. THIS GUITAR IS A VERY GOOD AXE, AND IF IT WASNT FOR THE FLAW IN THE STAIN, I WOULD GIVE IT A FIVE, {ESPICALLY FOR THE MONEY.} SINCE MINE WAS PROBABLY A FACTORY BLEM OR SECOND, I'LL RATE IT LOWER. I WOULD STILL CONSIDER BUYING ANOTHER ONE OF THESE AT SOME OTHER TIME IN ANOTHER COLOR! IN FACT, IM SURE OF IT! ITS A REALLY GOOD GUITAR IN THE UNDER $400 price range.
