Peavey Limited EXP St Reviews  5 / 5 based on 2 reviewsI got this guitar as a gift for my birthday. It was aquired at American Music (Peaveys are basically all they sell now, besides Fenders) and I heard it was a value for the price.
I LOVE this guitar! It is BEAUTIFUL, black with blue waves. Quite a hard shell, which is good because I tend to be clumsy. The sound is a little bit more high-pitched and metallic, sort of sci-fi like, than most normal guitars, but I love that too. It's a great sound. I havn't had a problem with it yet and everyone admires it.
The only problem is that it only has two volume knobs, but that isn't really a problem with my Roland MicroCube bass. The sound is perfect. Also, it is very heavy. While performing, it does weigh down on the shoulders, but it's nothing you can't get used to. Also, while changing the strings, I found some green what-do-you-call-it on the bridge. Whatever happened to the Statue of Liberty. I'm not worried about it yet.
This guitar is amazing, as I've already said, it is probably indestructible. The quiality is up there and it's great that I don't have to fiddle around too much with adjusting anything. All around AWESOME guitar.
BUY THIS GUITAR. You won't regret it. Sarah rated this unit on 2005-07-29. I played it in a guitar shop and had to have it, so I found a refurbished model on www.musiciansfriend.com for $199.99 and free shipping, rather than the $599 the guitar shop wanted.
Even had I paid the $599 I'd be greatly satisfied. The first thing to note is the incredible beauty of the instrument as a whole. The aesthetics are incredible, and always catch someone's eye. With a Humbucker/single coil/single coil setup it's incredibly versatile, with a nice hollow crunch from the humbucker and a satisfyingly warm tone from the top single. It required very little adjustment to play like guitars worth 5 times as much.
I can complain about very little on this model. It is quite heavy, and the tremelo does tend to knock it out of tune more quickly than my non-tremelo guitars, but that is the nature of the beast.
Very solid. I've gone over it countless times when showing it off, and have found zero flaws, even in a factory refurbished model. It's all I could ask for and more.
I have a friend that just built a custom ground-up guitar, and had $1400 and many hours in it when all was said and done. It's nice, but I got a whole lot more bang for my buck. Its price and availability would make it a great choice for a beginner, but its versatility will make you hang onto it even as you move forward and expand your horizons.
