Peavey Wolfgang Special (import) Reviews 4

I purchased this guitar from Daddy's Junky Music new for $550, including Peavey hardshell case. I bought it because I was looking for a "humbucker-y" guitar to compliment my Tele.

Guitar looks and plays like a much more expensive model. I examined the import Wolfgang Special against a USA model and really couldn't see much difference. The amber quilted maple top looks awesome and the oiled neck plays very well. Similar actually to my Ibanez 560 only not so thin. The pickups sound good too, very powerful output and classic humbucker mids, very chunky. Not great for clean tones but man does it rock! The D-tuner works great too, a very handy device. Single volume knob keeps things simple, no tone knob.

I don't like the placement of the pickup selector on the upper horn. Also, the toggle is backwards from what I'm used to, ie..the UP position selects the bridge pickup. The body shape is nice but I've found that when sitting down it doesn't feel right, maybe I just need to get used to it.

The body is alder ( i think) with a thick quilted maple top. Very nice looking. Neck is maple with a tung oil finish. I really like the feel of the neck. The scale is 25 1/2" same as my tele but it feels like a much smaller guitar. Construction looks very tight, neck pocket is clean, fretwork is fine. The action is a little higher than what I am used to but I haven't played a Floyd in years. This guitar is very simple and solid, should last a long time.

For the money, the Wolfgang Special Import is a great value. If you like the Music Man Axis or Peavey Wolfgang, or are just looking for a good rock guitar that won't break the bank I would highly recommend this guitar.
