Squier Statocaster Reviews 4 / 5 based on 1 reviewsI purchased a used Squire Stat from Guitar Centers for $80. This guitar was manufactured in China, so I didn't have very high expectations.
After playing for about 6 months, I love this guitar. It's easy to play and sounds good (not great) and is always in tune - even when abusing the tremelo bar.
Over the past few months I purchased a Les Paul and thought the 'strat' would end up in the closet, but that is not the case. I play the Strat 3 to 1 more than the Les. It's light, the neck is a great size for my hands (medium) and with 5 pickup veriations, it offers a lot of variety in output.
My plan is to upgrade the pickups and keep this one for a while. Hopefully one of my kids will want to learn to play and I'll hand it down.
The pickups are good, but not great. An inexpensive upgrade to Fender pickups is in order.
I've been very happy with this guitar. It's easy to play and not nearly has heavy as my Les Paul.
The neck is straight and stays in tune, even when played hard.
If you're just starting out or on a tight budget, I'd recommend this guitar.
If you can find a used one, as I did, it's hard to go wrong. jc rated this unit on 2003-01-27.
