Hercules I Stand Reviews 3 / 5 based on 1 reviewsI picked up the I Stand by Hercules. My reasoning behind purchasing it was because it folds up into a circular pod no bigger than a small dinner plate.
It unfolds into a guitar stand. Hercules brand makes a few different models of I Stands. I purchased the one for electric guitars, but I have also seen one for the acoustic. I wish I had purchased that one, I'll explain below.
I saw this in a local music shop and bought it before I tried it out. It was $30 which probably could have been spent on a better stand.
It folds up nicely and is portable. If you get your guitar seated in the one magical position it will be a rock solid stand, other than that be careful.
Basically it has legs in the back that fold out and then arms in the front that fold out. Both the arms and legs could stand to be just a hair longer. It fits Les Pauls really well, but some instruments almost sit straight up, so any sort of action going on around the stand could tip everything over.
I can only assume the arms on the acoustic model are longer, as the body of an acoustic is deeper, maybe this would cure the balance problem?
It's got some weight to it. Seeing as though it isn't really useful to me since I wanted a stand I could take out to gigs, I doubt this will ever break!
In other words, yes it is well built.
Bottom line is try before you buy with your guitar. I own Telecasters, Strats, LPs, P-basses and Jazz Basses and it's about 50/50 if the I Stand securely holds the guitar or doesn't. Billy rated this unit on 2011-04-18.
