Hands-on review: ZVEX Effects Fuzz Probe

I purchased this item on e-bay for $29 plus $6.95 shipping and handling so I don't know for sure what the actual retail price is. I wanted it so I could record my acoustic guitar and I knew I didn't want to pay a lot and I wanted one that was simple to install. The only other acoustic guitar pickup I've ever used (borrowed) was a George L's which I liked because it was easy to install (just pop in and pop out) and made in the USA. But I found that the George L's (which, according to their web page, retails for $75) didn't pick up each string very evenly.

The Samick (made in Korea) picks up a balanced sound and has the added feature of neat little volume and tone controls. Also, the plug that detaches from the actual pickup unit is convenient because I don't have to keep popping the pickup back in and out.

The installation was a bit difficult because I found I had to keep adjusting the mounting bracket in order to get the right fit.

The construction of the actual pickup part of the unit seems good, but the mounting bracket and the plastic holes that it goes into could have been made better in my opinion.

For the price it is a worthwhile product.
