Seymore Duncan Antiquity Texas Specials Pickups Reviews 5

Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups are hand made at the Seymour Duncan factory. These are hand wound to his custom specifications and use the appropriate aged magnets, wire and pickup covers. This aging process gives a vintage look and a vintage tone. The tone these pickups give is very authentic but with a little bit more punch and smoothness. Th... [read more on Audiofanzine]

Bought from local Authorized Music Store (Hanover Strings NH to replace stock pickups in a Hamer Strat copy with S-S-H. approx. $85 ea. Matched with a Alnico Pro II humbucker also Duncan.

Being a Fralin pickup user, I expected less from these than I got. They sound very good. Gutsy power with good jangle but not shards of glass if you will. Neck has that spark and bowels at the same time. Sounds nice through my Bogner Shiva. Note: I had to change internal pots from 500k to 250k and experiment with capaciters to get it right. I also shielded the hell out of the chamber and pick guard.(highly recommended)

Duncans mystique with the Antiquity line is to replicate "old and worn". Consequently the beatiful packaging and individually signed unit comes out of the little draw string bag with dirt and crap all over it! It literally has dirt or grime all over it. I'm game, I went with the mojo and sparingly shook them off and installed the suckers.

These look like any staggered pole pickups one has ever seen. They come with "aged" cream covers. They also tote the resistant value on the individual bags the come in. These are aroung 6.5 ohm. The winding on the body looks arbitrary as opposed to some mass produced pickups I've seen. Some wax present ans "grit" as I described. Pole pieces are oxydized or "old" looking. Hand built appeal.

All said, I like these pickups. I,ve experimented from high output "MyGrande's" and stock replacement Fralins. These come somewhere in the middle. They have complex overtones and represent the true guitar sound. They then bring in the "Texas" girth and snap to a delightful extent. I would buy them again. The guitar I have them in is no prize but a good player. Maybe in a good piece of wood they would shine even more. Of course the Shiva helps even the worst pickup but thats another story.
