Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive Reviews  4 / 5 based on 3 reviewsI got this at Mars Music back when they were around for $20. I was looking for a slight overdrive sound.
I like the sound I get from this pedal. The controls are Level and Overdrive. I set the Overdrive at about 4 and get a great crunchy tone. I use this pedal for my first tone - the softer one. Then, I add the Ibanez DS7 Distortion for the full distortion sound. So, this pedal does two things for me. It provides my first slight overdrive tone, and it adds to the DS7 sound. I get more harmonics and more sustain combining the DS7 with this Overdrive. Very affordable. Good sound.
There are no tone controls whatsover. Tone controls would make this pedal more versatile, but it is part of Danelectro's affordable mini pedal series. Honestly, for me, it gets the job done.
The casing is made of plastic. The pedal is very light. It might not be able to handle a heavy stomp. I've heard that these pedals break easily. But I always leave this pedal on. It's the foundation of my sound. I never stomp on it and I take care of it. Though it is plastic, it's still in great condition. It looks a little silly. The name is Pastrami and it's a small red pedal, but get over it and enjoy the sound.
I like this pedal and it works in my setup. I have a feeling people are trying to use this as their main heavy distortion sound and are not satisfied with it. If I was using it for that, I wouldn't be satisfied either. But you have to find a use for a pedal. You have to try it out and ask yourself if you can use it in your setup. It works great for me, so I'm giving it a 4. Alex D. rated this unit on 2004-04-12. I got this pedal from Mars music before they went out of business, I've had it for about 2 years now. I believe it was $25. If you really want it, get it off ebay for under 20.
It isn't heavy and bulky, and it has stayed in good shape. I don't abuse my pedals, and it looks as good as new.
The overdrive is weak. It is decent if you want to get some dirty blues sounds, but it isn't anywhere near the distortion needed for rock. Even when you turn it up all the way, it sounds better suited for blues. It will sound really rough and choppy.
It's all plastic except for the bottom which is metal. The plastic has held up well so I can't complain. The batteries don't last long, so make sure you have an adaptor ready.
It's a decent pedal to mess around with, but I would rather save up for a better pedal. Unless you want some blues distortion, go for something else. Robert rated this unit on 2003-11-24. I got it as a gift for Christmas, I think its about $30.
It produces cool bluesy overdrive, not tube amp quality of course, but still good. Doesn't guzzle up your batteries.
Definitly not the pedal for heavy metal! It just doesn't produce the heavy distortion needed to jam with Mr. Wylde.
I wouldn't drop it off of a building, but its solid.
Good for blues, or a boost for solos, but not heavy enough by itself. Michael H. rated this unit on 2003-04-22.
