This pedal is a great addition to any person who needs a fat sounding distortion who uses maybe Fender amp or Vox or just about any clean based amp. That's where I was really impressed, although the design may not have been intentionally made that way. That's how I used it and that's how I liked it. Bought this tube preamp with amazing tank-design at ebay for 260€. Expexted a real ass-kicking distortion sound and a clean one thats ok.
Well, the design is incredible. not often that I've seen such a tough guitar preamp. ok, it's a mesa. really unbreakable
The clean channel comes with a real warm, big and transparent tone. really fine, very much more than I expcted!
blues channel sounds ok.
Distorion channel is not really great. these two tubes don't make the tone I talk about as a fat distortion. It sounds more like a tubeless boring distortion the kind you'll find in a zoom multieffectboard. This mode shouldn't work beneath the MESA letters. It's not worth it.
Another not satisfying solution are the tone controls, that turn bas, mid, trb, gain & presence for all the channels. No way to set higher gain on the distortion than on the clean channel. that really sucks.
many connection possibilities, some really intelligent solutions. perfect quality.
Very good clean sounds, and really great design and quality.
but that's not enough to say the v-twin pedal is a good preamp. there's no use for this distortion channel.
