Shure has been known for making the best multi purpose use mics for the past 50 years. Even guys like Tom Petty and Henry Rollins swear by it as their go to mic for vocals in the studio.
I needed to outfit the singers in my band with wireless mics. This is so they can go around and make a fuss with the crowd and such. Now I have used the PG58 wired mic before and loved it, so why not check out the wireless pack they sell? The set of 2 mics with one receiver for both of the microphones was $500. Really that is a good price for two mics.
They sound great when they are working. I mean I don't think I could blindly tell you the difference between the PG wireless mics and the SM wireless mics.
I said I could not tell a blindfolded mic test between the PG58s and the higher end model. That is until you use them for more than a song. Playing a full night using these microphones for 4 hours I definitely need to change the batteries at least once during the set breaks. This is a big nuisance as I now have to bring a battery charger out to each and every gig.
The overall construction is tough. These mics have taken some serious abuse of getting things spilled on them and being dropped off their stands from lets say 5 or 6 feet. So I do have to give them credit. The receiver is a nice slim fit that I can sit on top of my sound gear rack.
When they work these microphones are fabulous. I have a love hate relationship with them however due to that lack of battery life these mics get. Do yourself a favor and keep a ton of spare 9 volts around. Billy rated this unit on 2011-11-29. When I state the PG58 has no place in the world, I mean it. I would excuse it if it could actually be called a budget microphone. While it technically is, its quality screams $10 mic so loudly that Shure's insistence of charging $60 for them is absurd.

While they aren't the best sounding mics, they are cheap so I don't worry about breaking them if I need to bring them around. Good sound quality, gets rid of a considerable amount of noice during the recording process. A little fuzzy at times if the connection is somewhat compromised. Recommend a preamp with this, it really brings out the warmth and the richness of the vocals.
Plug and go capability. It doesn't get much easier than that.
