I purchased the Piano Wizard directly from Allegro's web site for less than $200...an incredible value especially when compared to the cost of a year of piano lessons. The reason for my purchase was simple: improve my piano playing skills, and get my kids interested in playing themselves.
Piano Wizard is very simple to use. Simply hook the keyboard up to your computer via USB, install the software, run setup and you're ready to go. The best part about Piano Wizard is that it is a "game".
Playing it is fun...doesn't matter whether you are a kid or an adult like myself. No Piano Teaching method is effective if you don't enjoy it, so the fact that it IS a game makes it so much fun to use.
The ability to add any MIDI file increases it's flexibility exponentially, so the game never grows old.
The graphics can be a touch better and seem to be more appropriate for kids. But they are a bunch of background options, and you can even remove them if you so desire.
The bundled M-Audio keyboard is an excellent MIDI controller and well built. I was suprised to find it's even touch sensitive, and works perfectly with my GarageBand.
If you are looking for a quick way to get started on the Piano, this just may be what you've been looking for. Save the formal lessons for later and try this thing first.
